Audemars Piguet is known the world over, not only for the instantly recognizable octagonal bezel of its star models, but chiefly for its expertise as a maker of complications. Barely a year after introducing the Royal Oak Concept RD#1, the brand from Le Brassus unveiled at the 2016 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie the most sophisticated minute repeater to date, the Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie. In addition to being a horological complication, a minute repeater is also a musical instrument. Both the tempo and the quality of the sound must be adapted to an appropriate sound volume. The ultra-light titanium case is designed to avoid sound absorption and to reinforce amplification. As in a guitar or a piano, the incredible sound of the Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie  stems from a soundboard isolated from the the rest of the mechanism. It took eight years of research to achieve such an unparalleled technological feat. This timepiece with its surprising sound achieves an unprecedented level of acoustic intensity.
