Bvlgari has been shining brightly in the watchmaking galaxy for some time now, and is successfully pursuing its conquest of horological space-time. Following in the stellar wake of the world’s thinnest tourbillon, the Octo Finissimo launched into orbit in 2014, the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater played a starring role at Baselworld 2016. Endowed with a degree of complexity inversely proportionate to its thickness (3.12mm for the Manufacture caliber and 6.85mm for the case), this new model is also distinguished by its aesthetically elegant design. Combining the acoustic requirements of this top-flight complication with the diminutive volume of its ultra-thin housing called for a wealth of ingenuity and technical mastery. The tiny hand-crafted gongs are directly affixed to the titanium case, whose nature serves to enhance the sound diffusion. The latter is indeed amplified by the incisions serving as hourmarkers and small seconds display on the dial, also made from titanium. Spectacular miniaturization, as reflected in the 3.3mm centrifugal regulator measuring just 3.3mm in diameter including its two inertia-blocks, explains how 362 components can be accommodated within this apparently simple ultra-thin watch that fully justifies the ovation received by this watchmaking UFO.
