The origins of casual chic
Enter a model from an age unknown to those below the age of 40, apart from watch enthusiasts for whom 1977 spells the arrival on the market of one of the very first “casual chic” watches : the Sport Classic by EBEL. It became an immediate success and earned the brand from La Chaux-de-Fonds spectacular renown and equally impressive growth. It is worth recalling that EBEL had been co-founded by a woman, Alice Lévy, and that it is to her that we owe the femininity and elegance which still define the creations of the Maison. Among them is the Sport Classic, which is returning this year with new models – for the first time since 1977. The signature codes that have forged its success are all there : the elegant and comfortably supple integrated bracelet with wave-type links ; the hexagonal case with flowing curves ; and the five screws on the bezel that lend a sporty touch to the watch. Modernity has also had its say, with accentuated bracelet undulations ; a new exclusive jewelry clasp combining beauty with security ; and a more contemporary font for the Roman numerals. White mother-of-pearl, diamond hour-markers and the red gold of the gemset bezel striking a pleasing contrast with brushed steel all contribute to the elegance of the watch, while its mechanical self-winding movement ensures its horological quality.
