The latest avatar in the ongoing cooperation between Bugatti and Parmigiani, the Type 390 overturns existing watch design codes. The Bugatti Chiron is quite simply a monster. It deserved a watch able to match this sensational hypercar boasting incredible design and performance. Parmigiani, watchmaking partner of Bugatti since 2001, has thus created the Type 390. The angular, streamlined case flaunts an astonishing structure with a large cylindrical base and an adjoining offset display on a large openworked dial. Fitted inside this tubular section, Caliber PF390 picks up a familiar Parmigiani architectural approach, since the flying tourbillon escapement and twin barrels with a triangular coupling system are arranged in-line. They convey their information to the gently sloping dial on which the hands directly face the driver. This instantly legible kind of display had been experimented with in the previous exceptional Parmigiani Bugatti watch, the Super Sport. And the quest for ergonomics does not stop there, since the white gold (or pink gold) case is as transparent as a vehicle interior. It is arched so as to ensure a perfect grip on the wrist, a must for a watch that roars to 400 km/h in 32 seconds… at the wheel of a Chiron.
