Collectors of exceptional timepieces will easily recognise the distinctive silhouette of this new Perpetual Calendar Chronograph (Ref 5270) of which the first generation emerged 70 years ago and has for the past decade been consistently setting new records in the major auctions. Its rectangular pushers harmoniously match the lugs with their slightly broader base, while its concave bezel encircles a masterpiece of aesthetic elegance and readability despite the constraints imposed by the 11 different displays. The moon phases are shown at the centre of the 31 days of the month, themselves clearly framed by the leap-year indication at 4.30 and the day/night display at 7.30. These various functions are driven by a chronograph movement with column wheel and horizontal coupling clutch, naturally entirely developed and produced by Patek Philippe. The owner may choose to admire this fascinating mechanism through a sapphire crystal back which is interchangeable with the solid one. While heart and mind rarely agree when it comes to investments, this particular one looks promising in all respects.
