As a resolutely high-end brand within the Richemont luxury group, Roger Dubuis surprised the entire watch industry by announcing at the SIHH 2017 a partnership with Pirelli, exclusive supplier of tyres for prestigious motor-racing competitions including the Formula 1 world championship. Both pioneers in their respective fields, the two brands know that expert services are highly valued by enlightened connoisseurs in both the automobile and watchmaking worlds. Pirelli has drawn upon its experience of close cooperation with the greatest manufacturers and drivers in launching the P Zero™ tyre program, synonymous with Ultra High Performance. At Roger Dubuis, the Excalibur is an iconic, deliberately extravagant collection, as notably expressed through its Spider range. Since 2015, Excalibur Spider watches have been highlighting the starshaped Astral Skeleton movements, highly complex skeletonized calibers cleverly woven like spider’s webs. The global openworking, extending beyond the movement itself, testifies to the Manufacture’s proven expertise in the realm of horological technology and construction.

Double Tourbillon in pole position

Roger Dubuis therefore naturally selected the daring Excalibur Spider models to embody its partnership with Pirelli. These exclusive limited series are fitted with dedicated rubber straps distinguished rubber inlays from certified Pirelli winning motorsports tyres. The inside of these straps also features legendary tread motifs reproducing the profile of a Pirelli CinturatoTM intermediate tyre. On the front-runner Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider PirelliExcalibur Spider Pirelli – Double Flying Tourbillon, the blue color accentuates the model’s exceptional automobile-inspired characteristics. It notably adorns the branches of the famous star-shaped Astral Skeleton movement, distinctly pointing towards the hour-markers so as to enhance clarity and legibility. Subtle touches draw the eye to the speedometer-like seconds counters encircling the tourbillons at 5 and 7 o’clock, near the power-reserve indicator which is a nod to racing-car cockpit fuel gauges.

A perfect blend of robustness and reliability, this model is clearly built for life in the fast lane. Fine Watchmaking connoisseurs will appreciate the Manufacture-made caliber certified by the highly demanding Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark. Available exclusively from Roger Dubuis boutiques, the eight pieces in this limited edition enable purchasers to enjoy an unprecedented experience, since Pirelli invites them to take part in a two-day VIP program organized during a motorsports event.

The association between Roger Dubuis and Pirelli not only holds the promise of exclusive products stemming from an alliance between visionary engineering and bold watchmakers, but also commits to delivering extraordinary movements. The watch brand’s new “Dare to be rare” concept is very much on the move.

Vibrant Mechanics

Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider PirelliRoger Dubuis dares to flaunt color, and notably those referring to the immediately recognizable codes of Formula 1 motor-racing. The blue of the first models – the Automatic Skeleton and Double Flying Tourbillon – unveiled at the SIHH in January 2017 correspond to the wet-weather tyres featuring full tread patterns required to expel large quantities of water. The colors of the Pirelli logo chosen for the new automatic models, presented at the latest edition of the prestigious Run to Monaco rally, evoke dry-weather compounds. Yellow indicates a soft version providing the broadest scope for use ; red a super soft ideal for slow and winding routes. The respective blue, yellow and red accents are picked up on the movement, the flange, the tip of the luminescent hands and the crown overmolding on the Excalibur Spier Pirelli – Automatic Skeleton versions.
