François-Paul Journe has never made any secret of the fact that the tourbillon is an object of fascination to which he dedicates the fruits of his horological quest, constantly seeking to improve its chronometric performance. The adventure began in the 1980s, while he was making his watchmaking debut in Paris, with his uncle who was a renowned restorer of antique watches. During this period, the young François-Paul Journe spent all his free time on developing a tourbillon. After five years of work, he presented a magnificent tourbillon pocket watch in 1983, a first milestone that heralded a long lineage of exceptional tourbillons. In 1991, François-Paul Journe introduces his first tourbillon wristwatch as a subscription of 11 pieces. In 1999, when he first created his eponymous brand, François-Paul Journe unveiled the Tourbillon Souverain, the first model in the Souveraine collection and the only wristwatch tourbillon equipped with a remontoire. This mechanism that has established itself as the most precise on the market is now making way for a new generation of Tourbillon Souverain models.

Directly in line from the timepieces that have punctuated the past 15 years of the Geneva-based Manufacture, the new Tourbillon Souverain à remontoir d’égalité avec seconde morte displays the characteristics and standards inherent in all creations by F.P. Journe – Invenit et Fecit. Its mechanism features the remontoire or constant-force device that has amply demonstrated the excellence of its chronometric performance. The watch brand now enriches it with a dead-beat seconds system, a unique complication in a contemporary wristwatch that offers a more accurate reading of time. The seconds hand marks the second only once it has actually elapsed.

In parallel with its spectacular mechanical developments, F.P. Journe exalts the magic of the tourbillon with the luminous beauty of diamonds. The Tourbillon Souverain High Jewel-
lery
is an exceptional and rare creation. F.P. Journe combines technical dexterity with the virtuoso jewelry skills required to set 425 baguette-cut diamonds on the platinum case, as well as the 201 brilliant-cut diamonds lighting up the gold dial with a precious sparkle.

Over the years, François-Paul Journe has never once departed from his fundamental principles. He has made a rule of pursuing the exceptional. To commemorate his 30 years of horological creations, the brilliant watchmaker launched a 99 piece limited edition wristwatch version of his first tourbillon pocket watch. Presented in 2013, the Historical Tourbillon reprised the same aesthetic characteristics as the original model. Classicism is the order of the day for this anniversary timepiece which, like the 1983 pocket-watch version, places the tourbillon on the back of the watch, protected from prying eyes by a silver cover.

Exclusivity, excellence and the exceptional are the keynotes that have guided the brand’s development throughout its history. F.P. Journe enshrines them in a strictly limited-edition model christened 10 Years Anniversary Tourbillon. Issued in a symbolic ten-piece series, this original version of the Tourbillon Souverain celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Journe boutique in Tokyo,  as well as the opening of the brand’s 10th boutique in Beirut. A rare model embodying the insatiable quest for innovation pursued by this outstanding horologist, as well as the legend of the tourbillon whose history he continues to write with a blend of passion and precision.
